Classic cycling livery has taken a lot of cues from one stream of modernism; the "Hard Edge" school. Artists and designers like Piet Mondrian, Paul Rand, and Eva Zeisel were big influences. But there is another stream in modernism that is more fluid and painterly; "Expressionism", think artists like De Kooning and Rothko. Increases in printing resolution over the last 20 years have opened up a lot more possibilities for designs. So we thought it would be an interesting experiment to make a design based on classic jersey composition but painted wet on wet with watercolors.
This jersey was inspired by mid-century American Ab-Ex painters like Frankenthaler, Diebenkorn, and Motherwell (pictured above).
